Hollywood's awards season got underway in earnest Sunday evening at the 71st Golden Globe Awards, which celebrate achievements in film and television.

Famous faces — including Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Kerry Washington, Taylor Swift and Usher — were among the nominees, presenters and attendees at the glitzy gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Hosted for a second consecutive year by comic favourites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Globes are the annual awards of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The event is considered a looser, more carefree and wider-ranging toast of Hollywood than the upcoming Oscars.
