A short film by Halifax filmmaker and comedian Pardis Parker has won three awards at the Montgomery Film Festival in Alabama.

The six-minute comedy Two Men, Two Cows, Two Guns won best film, best comedy and an audience award at the two-year-old festival, which introduced awards for the first time this year.

The film also has a nomination for best direction and best film at the Canadian Comedy Awards.

Two Men, Two Cows, Two Guns stars John Dunsworth of Trailer Park Boys and Levi MacDougall of Important Things With Demetri Martin in an oddball story about a stranger with unexpected news who interrupts the life of a farming family.

A rough cut of the film screened at the Atlantic Film Festival last September. It also stars Halifax actors Sherry Smith, Murlane Carew, and Christopher Bearne.

"It's tough for comedy to translate across borders, so it's particularly rewarding to see that the film is being received just as well in Alabama as it is in Canada," said Parker, who wrote and directed.

Parker, who is a stand-up comedian as well as a filmmaker, also created the 2008 short film Afghan.
