On Sunday, March 7, CBC News conducted a live Oscar chat, which featured various CBC personalities and other panelists, as well as audience members.

On hand were: Toronto film festival co-director Cameron Bailey and programmer Matthew Hays, who talked about how films go from the festival circuit to Oscar contention; Crystal Rickard (from Toronto dress boutique Fashion Crimes) and Louisa Cohen (Shedoesthecity.com ), who critiqued the red carpet; Sidney Perkowitz, author of Hollywood Science, who talked sci-fi with us.

As well, we had Canadian filmmakers Ruba Nadda (Cairo Time), Adrianna Maggs (Grown Up Movie Star) and CBC's Sook-Yin Lee (Year of the Carnivore), who discussed the dearth of female directors in Hollywood.

CBC film reviewers Jelena Adzic, Lee Ferguson, Eli Glasner and Jesse Wente offered their insights on the films that made the Oscar cut this year. As well, CBC reporters Deana Sumanac and Ilana Banks were backstage at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood that night, giving us a stream of updates on who was schmoozing whom.
