Filming is scheduled to begin later this month in Halifax on The Sea Wolf, a British-American-German co-production based on a book by Jack London, according to Variety magazine.

Tim Roth, Neve Campbell and Sebastian Koch, who starred in The Lives of Others, are among the cast members.

The film centres on hard-bitten captain Wolf Larsen, who rescues an over-educated landlubber and gives him a trial by fire with a job on his ship during a seal-hunting expedition.

It is being produced by Germany's Tele Munchen, which also produced a mini-series based on the book in 1970.

Also backing the $19-million Cdn. film are RHI Entertainment of the U.S. and Power Corp of the U.K.

Mike Barker, director of The Good Woman, is to helm the two-part feature, which will be shown first on German TV.

The Sea Wolf was a best-seller for London when he wrote it in 1904 and has been made into a movie several times, including a 1941 version starring Edward G. Robinson and a 1997 version starring Stacy Keach.
