Frank Langella and Michael Sheen, two of Broadway's current stars, are set to reprise their acclaimed roles in an upcoming film adaptation of the play Frost/Nixon.

Langella and Sheen are in final talks to take their respective roles as disgraced former U.S. president Richard Nixon and British talk show host David Frost from stage to the silver screen, according to trade newspaper Variety.

After earning raves in London's West End, Frost/Nixon also won over Broadway critics upon opening in New York in late April.

British writer Peter Morgan penned the play, a behind-the-scenes dramatization of Frost's exclusive interviews with Nixon in 1977 after the Watergate scandal had forced him out of the White House.

Morgan is the writer behind two of 2006's most celebrated British films: royal drama The Queen and The Last King of Scotland, a portrait of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.

Morgan is also set to adapt his play into the screenplay for the upcoming Frost/Nixon film, which will be helmed by U.S. director Ron Howard, according to a spokeswoman for Universal Pictures.

Frost/Nixon ends its run at New York's Bernard Jacobs Theatre on Aug. 13, with producers of the film adaptation planning to begin shooting later that month.

In the past few years, an increasing number of Hollywood successes have sparked Broadway adaptations, usually musicals like Legally Blonde and The Wedding Singer.

However, it's less common to see the tables turn from Broadway to Hollywood, especially for a straightforward play.

Frost/Nixon is the latest major Broadway drama to inspire a film, following in the recent footsteps of The History Boys, another U.K. production that went on to success in New York.
