After their smash success portraying Queen Elizabeth, the producers behind the award-winning film The Queen are set to bring a portrait of Britain's Iron Lady to the silver screen.

French-owned, U.K.-based production and distribution company Pathé announced Tuesday a movie of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher is in the works.

Pathé officials said the film would cover the days leading up to the 1982 Falkland Islands war with Argentina.

Her decision to enter the conflict in the south Atlantic forced Thatcher to "confront her private fears, face down the men who doubted her and forge the image that even today casts a shadow across the political landscape," Pathé said.

Producer Damian Jones, whose credits include The History Boys and Welcome to Sarajevo, and screenwriter Brian Fillis have been enlisted for the project, but Pathé has yet to name a director or announce casting.

Last year, a musical based on Thatcher's life premiered in the U.K.

The all-female production Thatcher: The Musical was staged in central England near Birmingham before going on tour throughout the U.K. It began with her background as a grocer's daughter and spanned the Falklands War, the Brighton bombing and her eventual departure from office in 1990 after three terms as prime minister.
