It appears there's not a whole lot to love about the new romantic fantasy Winter's Tale, released in time for Valentine's Day.

The film, based on the 1983 bestselling book by Mark Helprin, stars Colin Farrell as a charming thief who falls for Jessica Brown Findlay's character, the dying daughter of a media baron.

It's also the directorial debut of Akiva Goldsman, a major screenwriter in Hollywood who has done such films as Cinderella Man and A Beautiful Mind.

CBC's Eli Glasner says he wanted to like Winter's Tale,  but it kept "doubling down on the crazy."
