Dustin Hoffman takes advantage of the charms of a cast of veteran actors in Quartet, which is set in a rest home for aging opera stars and musicians.

Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins demonstrate that old passions never really fade as they play a group of residents hoping to give some oomph to the home's fund-raising gala.

Hoffman is making his directorial debut at 75 with Quartet and, though he's not on screen, his impish sensibility shines through.
