2012 will be marked as the year of the billionaire bad boy in books, according to Amazon, which has released its list of best-selling books of the year on Friday.
The online book seller has named E.L. James' erotic romance novel Fifty Shades Freed, the third book in her Fifty Shades trilogy, as the top seller among new books on Amazon this year.
The first two books in the trilogy were published in 2011, so weren’t eligible for the 2012 list, according to Sara Nelson, editorial director of books and Kindle at Amazon.com.
The Fifty Shades Trilogy in a boxed-set or e-book format, was the third-highest seller.
The second most popular book was Gone Girl, the suspense novel about a marriage gone horribly wrong by Gillian Flynn.
Five of the top 10 books star billionaire bad boys.
American writer Sylvia Day has two erotic novels in this category on the top 10: Bared to You: A Crossfire Novel was No. 4 on the list and Reflected in You: A Crossfire Novel was No. 7.
No Easy Day, a first-hand account of the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan, by Navy SEAL Mark Owen, was also a best-seller. The book was controversial for contradicting official accounts of the raid that led to bin Laden’s death.
