The copy, printed in 1909, has a pre-sale estimate of $20,200 to $30,300 Cdn going into the Sotheby's auction.

Anne of Green Gables, about a red-haired orphan girl on Prince Edward Island, was Montgomery's first novel and was published in 1908.

The copy up for auction this Friday is a 14th impression printed in October 1909 with the original beige dust jacket.

Sotheby's says it's "generally a very clean copy" with "very light occasional spotting."

The cover has an illustration of the plucky heroine on Prince Edward Island.

The auction includes other books by Montgomery, as well as works or manuscripts by George Washington, Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan.

Dylan's autographed, pencil-written lyrics for The Times They Are A-Changin' is expected to attract bids of between $202,000 and $303,000.
