Giller Prize winner Vincent Lam has been shortlisted for the Story Prize for short fiction for his book, Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures.

The Story Prize is an annual U.S. book award for short story collections written in English and published in the U.S.

Three finalists, chosen by a jury, were announced on Wednesday.

TheĀ competing entriesĀ are Jim Shepard's Like You'd Understand, Anyway, which was nominated for a National Book Award in the U.S., and British author Tessa Hadley's Sunstroke and Other Stories.

Lam, a Toronto doctor who draws on his experiences as a medical student and in the emergency room in Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures, won the Giller in 2006 for the book.

This year's Story Prize jury includes writer David Gates, librarian Patricia Groh, and Meghan O'Rourke, books editor at Slate.

The winner of the $20,000 prize will be announced Feb. 27.
