A new biography tells the story of Anne Frank's life before she went into hiding in an attic in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation of Holland.

The Life of Anne Frank, released by Macmillan on Friday, claims to be the most comprehensive account of the Jewish teenager.

It also comes on the 60th anniversary of the publishing of The Diary of Anne Frank.

The new book is written by the people who work at Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. The house is a museum dedicated to telling the story of Frank's time in hiding and about the Holocaust.

The publisher says the book reveals lesser-known details of her life, as well as information about her arrest and how she was betrayed.

Frank was a gifted writer who wrote about her feelings, ambitions and the minutiae of life in hiding. The diaries have been translated into many languages and made into several television, film and theatrical productions.

"Will I ever be able to write something great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer? I hope so, oh, I hope so very much, because writing allows me to record everything, all my thoughts, ideals and fantasies," Frank wrote in her diary.

The 13-year-old, her family and four others hid in a cramped secret area in the office of her father, Otto Frank, between 1942 and 1944.

The family was betrayed and subsequently sent to concentration camps.  Seven months after their discovery, Anne died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen.  Her sister and mother also perished in the camps. Only her father survived.

An employee of Otto Frank's kept Anne's diary, which was first published in the Netherlands in 1947.
