Montreal artist Adad Hannah's Dinner Date (2007 to 2010) is a video recording of a tableau vivant. (Adad Hannah/Pierre-Francois Ouellette Art Contemporain) The Art Gallery of Ontario has bought works by Montreal's Adad Hannah and Vancouver's Ron Terada at the Art Toronto 2010 show of contemporary art.
AGO curator David Moos announced the purchase of 10 works by four Canadian artists on Friday. They are:
- Four works from Gold, Shelter, Oil Paintings and Hockey by Kingston, Ont., artist Mike Bayne.
- Four video-recorded tableaux vivants of models by Adad Hannah of Montreal.
- Ennui Blanc, a neon sign by An Te Liu of Toronto.
- Jack, an acrylic-on-canvas painting incorporating text from the memoirs of painter Jack Goldstein, by Ron Terada of Vancouver.
Mike Bayne's Untitled from the 2010 series God, Shelter, Oil Paintings and Hockey is an oil on panel. (Mike Bayne/Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects) Hannah has been a finalist for the Sobey Art Awards and won a Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award for mid-career artists. He creates elaborate tableaux with models and then records video images.
Bayne has drawn wide acclaim for his small-scale photorealistic oil paintings.
The AGO said the money for the acquisitions came from funds raised at the annual Arts Toronto event.
