Police in Brazil have recovered a painting by one of the country's most revered artists, Candido Portinari, two weeks after it was stolen from a museum.

Authorities say they arrested a man in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday and recovered O Enterro (The Burial), worth $850,000 US and one of seven Portinari pieces at the museum.

The 1959 work was taken from the Contemporary Art Museum in the northeastern city of Olinda in mid-July.

Media reports said fingerprints found at the museum helped police find the suspect.

This is not the first Portinari to be stolen. In 2008, O Lavrador de Cafe (The Coffee Worker) was stolen along with a Picasso painting from the Sao Paulo Museum of Art. The works had a combined value of $56 million US.

Several people were charged in early 2009 in connection with that heist and the paintings were recovered.
