Vermont authorities said Wednesday that artist Patrick Farrow, the brother of actress Mia Farrow, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The medical examiner has ruled the death a suicide from a single gunshot wound to the head — consistent with evidence at the scene, according to police.

A spokeswoman for the actress confirmed that the 66-year-old sculptor, "a beloved brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather," had committed suicide. The family is grieving, said Laura Berwick, Mia Farrow's manager.

Late Monday night, Vermont police arrived at the artist's gallery and studio space in Castleton, Vt., after emergency officials received a phone call from an unidentified woman.

Farrow was one of seven children born to noted writer and filmmaker John Farrow and celebrated actress Maureen O'Sullivan. In a statement on his website, he said his imagination was inspired after being raised "on movie sets in Hollywood and Europe."

A professional sculptor for more than 30 years, Farrow ran the gallery with his wife, fellow artist and arts administrator Susan Farrow. The gallery features bronze sculptures, mixed media works and jewelry.
