Owner lowers price on Titian for British galleries

(National Gallery/Associated Press)An aristocrat wants to sell a masterpiece of Renaissance painting to British public galleries if they can meet his $92 million asking price.
Diana and Actaeon is one of the greatest works by the Italian artist Titian and is worth an estimated $275 million on the open market.
The Duke of Sutherland has offered the work to major public galleries in Britain for a third of that price.
The National Galleries of Scotland and London's National Gallery launched a public appeal Thursday for funds to buy the painting.
They hope to raise money from the government, arts bodies and private donors.
If the bid is successful, the Duke says he will offer another Titian, Diana and Callisto, to the galleries in four years.
