The Images Festival, Toronto's annual salute to indie and experimental film, performance and installation art, will feature the world premiere of a long-awaited Canadian film.

Toronto-based G.B. Jones will open this year's festival with her feature film, The Lollipop Generation, a story about underage porn stars.

The festival kicks off on April 3 and runs until April 13.

Now in its 21st year, the Images Festival continues to showcase diverse Canadian and international talents, including First Nations, Turkish, and Palestinian.

The event is spread across two dozen venues in Toronto over the 10 days and will introduce 130 film, video, installation, new media and performance artworks.

Another Toronto-based Israeli artist, b.h. Yael, will be featured in the closing-night gala with the North American premiere of her video essay Trading the Future.

Other noteworthy acts at the gala event include:

  • A solo exhibit by Montreal video artist Nelson Henricks.
  • Hail the New Puritan and Live Images V, live performances by Charles Atlas.
  • Light Trap, a performance for four 16mm projections and live sound by Greg Pope in collaboration with Toronto-based noise musician Knurl.

The Images Festival addresses a range of political, feminist and other social and cultural issues through its screenings and exhibits.
