Comedian Andrea Martin and CBC talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos will host the 2012 Genie Awards, the annual celebration of the best in Canadian film.

The Genies gala is set for March 8 and will be broadcast on CBC-TV, with live-streaming of the red carpet ahead of the ceremony.

Martin, a Second City veteran also seen in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, was most recently on a Toronto stage in the comedy revue Love, Loss and What I Wore.

She is currently touring her one-woman show Final Days! Everything Must Go!, which earned her awards for best actress and best theatrical event in 2010.

Stroumboulopoulos interviews musicians, actors, filmmakers and other celebrities as host of CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. He also has co-hosted events such as the charity telethon Canada for Haiti.

"We look forward to a sassy evening of smart wit from these two Canadian powerhouses as we celebrate Canadian cinema," Helga Stephenson, interim CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, said in a press statement released Tuesday. The academy organizes the Genies.

This year's lead nominees are Jean-Marc Vallée's unconventional romance Café de Flore and David Cronenberg's psychoanalysis drama A Dangerous Method.

Several Hollywood stars are among the Genie nominees, including Michelle Williams, Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel Weisz.
