Amherstburg police looking for "sophisticated" tire thieves

Police in Amherstburg say that $41,767 worth of tires were stolen from brand new vehicles at Racicot Chrysler.

Police in Amherstburg say that $41,767 worth of tires were stolen from brand new vehicles at Racicot Chrysler.

The dealership is located at the corner of Sandwich and Simcoe streets.

Constable Shawn McCurdy said the thefts happened in the early hours on Wednesday. He said construction at Racicot meant there were no lights on at the time.

"Whoever these people are took advantage of that situation," said McCurdy. "And it's obviously not the first time this has happened. It was a very sophisticated group obviously. They were able to remove the tires from nine vehicles in probably a short period of time."

According to McCurdy, the vehicles were jacked up and put on blocks. Then thieves removed the lug nuts and stole rims and tires.

McCurdy said police are looking for a white cube van with a dented front end.

Video evidence shows the van hitting a sign as it left Racicot Chrysler.

McCurdy said anyone with information about the case should call Amherstburg police or Crimestoppers.
