District Profile:

This district on the coast of southeastern N.B. has tourism and fishing as the main industries. Includes the town of Shediac (in northwest), village of Cap-Pelé (in northeast) and parts of parishes of Botsford, Shediac and Moncton. The Greater Moncton Industrial Park is also here.

Redistribution:

In 2006 redistribution, Shediac - Cap-Pelé lost the area northwest of Shediac, transferring it to Kent-South. It also lost part of the areas of Scoudouc and Scoudouc Road, transferring them to the district of Memramcook-Lakeville-Dieppe. The district's total population is 14,068.

Political History:

2003:	LIB BERNARD RICHARD won the seat with over 65 per cent of the vote.
1999:	RICHARD defeated PC ODETTE BABINEAU by 2,182 votes.
1995:	RICHARD defeated PC JEAN-CLAUDE BOURQUE by 5,957 votes. Sept. 21: RICHARD appointed minister of state for intergovernmental and aboriginal affairs; March 20 to July 23, 1997: Acting attorney general and min of justice; July 21, 1997: Appointed minister of education. Resigned on Feb. 6, 1998 to run for Liberal leadership. Defeated in leadership bid on May 2, 1998. May 14, 1998: Reappointed minister of education.
