District Profile:
A large upper Miramichi riding in central New Brunswick. Anglophone lumber country. Principal communities are Boisetown, Doaktown and Blackville. District includes parishes of Derby, Blackville, Blissfield, Ludlow and Southesk. Logging/forestry are main industries. Red Bank Reserves No. 4 and No. 7 are also in riding.

In 2006, Southwest Miramichi added the McGivney area from Mactaquac, and the parish of Nelson (minus the part of Murray Settlement) from Miramichi Centre. The district's total population is 12,017.

Political History:
2003: LIB RICK BREWER won with 52 per cent of the vote.
1999: PC NORM BETTS defeated LIB REG MacDONALD by 1,169 votes. June 17: BETTS appointed minister of finance; Oct. 9, 2001: Appointed minister of Business New Brunswick, and minister responsible for Service N.B.
1995: LIB REG MacDONALD, incumbent from Bay du Vin ran in this riding after Bay du Vin riding was eliminated. MacDONALD defeated PC ANDY DAWSON by 901 votes. May 14, 1998: MacDONALD appointed minister of state for seniors.
1991: COR BRENT TAYLOR defeated LIB CLAUDE STEWART by 156 votes. Taylor left COR and was sitting as an Independent.
1987: LIB MORRIS GREEN defeated PC KEVIN PRICE by 3,286 votes. Oct. 27: GREEN appointed minister of natural resources and energy.
1974-1982: 1982: GREEN defeated PC STERLING HAMBROOK, who ran again, by 882 votes. In 1978, GREEN defeated PC J.F. MUNN by 147 votes. In 1974, HAMBROOK defeated LIB DOAD WALLS by 321 votes.
