An Acadian coastal district in the northeast corner of the province. In 1995 census, 97% listed French as mother tongue.

Fishing is the major industry.

District consists of the part in Gloucester county in the parish of Shippagan; town of Shippagan; town of Lamèque; villages of Le Goulet and Sainte-Marie/Saint Raphaël, Petit-Laméque.

Redistribution:
In the 2006 redistribution, Lamèque-Shippegan-Misco lost the community of Baie de Petit-Pokemouche, transferring it to the district of Centre-Peninsule. The district's total population is 11,961.

Political History:
LAMÈQUE-SHIPPAGAN-MISCOU
2003: PC PAUL ROBICHAUD won the seat with 4,644 votes.
1999: ROBICHAUD defeated LIB JEAN-CAMILLE DEGRACE by 3,347 votes.

June 17, 1999: ROBICHAUD appointed minister of fisheries and acquaculture; Oct. 9, 2001: Appointed minister of tourism and parks, and minister responsible for la Francophonie.

1995: DEGRACE defeated ROBICHAUD by 28 votes.

May 14, 1998: DEGRACE appointed minister of state for tourism and culture.
SHIPPAGAN-LES-ILES (new district in 1974).
1994: In December, then PC Leader Dennis Cochrane removed PC JEAN GAUVIN as whip after Gauvin threatened to quit the party unless Cochrane refused to consider former COR members as future Tory candidates.
1991: GAUVIN ran again and defeated LIB ALDÉA LANDRY by 50 votes.
1987: LANDRY defeated GAUVIN by 1,608 votes.

Oct. 27, 1987: LANDRY appointed president of Executive Council and minister responsible for regional development; Oct. 27, 1988: Interim minister of fisheries and aquaculture; Nov. 30, 1989: Added minister of intergovernmental affairs.
1982: GAUVIN again defeated ROBICHAUD, this time by 1,751 votes.

Gauvin reappointed minister of fisheries until 1985; Oct. 3, 1985: Appointed minister of housing.
1978: GAUVIN defeated ROBICHAUD by 547 votes.

Nov. 21, 1978 to 1985: GAUVIN appointed minister of fisheries.
1974: ROBICHAUD defeated PC JEAN CHIASSON by 67 votes.
1935-1972: Gloucester, a multi-member seat, had been Liberal since 1935 except for one PC elected in byelection in 1972.

LIB ANDRÉ ROBICHAUD was first elected in Gloucester in 1970.
