Profile:
This riding is on the southern coast of the province. It includes that part of city of Saint John west of intersection of Route 7 and Route 1 including Colpitts, Lorneville, Seaview and Black Beach; that part of city of Saint John north of Gault Road including South Bay, Acamac, Ketepec, Belmont, Morna Heights; Martinon to the county of Saint John border; town of Grand Bay and village of Westfield; all parish of Greenwich and parts of parishes of Petersville and Westfield.

Redistribution:
This riding was created in the 1995 redistribution from:

Kings Centre - southern and west-central part of riding;

Saint John West - area from eastern part of riding;

Queens South - southern tip moves to west part of this riding.

Political History:

  • Kings had been 3-member seat.

  • 3 Libs - 1935; 3 Cons - 1939, 1944, 1948

  • 3 PCs - 1952, 1956, 1960,(PC in 1962 by-election), 1963, 1967, 1970.

  • KINGS CENTRE - New riding in 1974

  • PC HAROLD FANJOY won in 1974, 1978 and 1982.

  • FANJOY appointed Minister of Supply & Services, 1976 and Nov 21/78;Chair, Board of Management(Ch, Treasury Board), Oct 30/82-Oct 1985.

  • In 1987, LIB KAL SEAMAN defeated PC FANJOY by 1,993 votes.

  • In 1991, LIB GEORGIE DAY defeated COR COLBY FRASER by 129 votes.

  • GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD:

  • In 1995, PC MILTON SHERWOOD defeated LIB ED KELLY by 749 votes.

  • In 1999 PC MILT SHERWWOOD defeated LIB GRACE LOSIER by 2113 votes.

  • SHERWOOD appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development June 17/99.
