If you're looking for a taste of what Music New Brunswick week will be like later this month, three of the groups involved will be in concert this Saturday, Oct. 5, at Moncton's Plan B. The show features The Jaclyn Reinhart Band, The Kendra Gale Band, and The Cauldron Project. The Music NB Awards and conference is coming up in Saint John, Oct. 17 -20.
Both The Cauldron Project and Kendra Gale are nominated for MNB awards this year. Cauldron Project are finalists for Electronic or Urban Recording, as well as Video/DVD of the year for People Splode. Gale is in the running for the Collaborative Musician of the year, and she's just coming off a big win at The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, where she grabbed top prize in the prestigious Galaxie Rising Star competition.
Reinhart didn't have an eligible album for these awards, but that's about to change, as her new one is coming out in November. She'll be in Saint John promoting the disc to the right people, and also playing the new tunes to the right people at Plan B Saturday. Reinhart plans on playing all new material, which is quite different from her previous, singer-songwriter work. While she's always liked to work with a full group, now it's a more rocking one. New songs such as Liam, Won't Do This and Storm all feature a bigger rock sound, heavy on the electric guitar. They have a bit of a retro vibe, 80's tough stuff, and should give Reinhart more flash and attention.
