Into the Spotlight - Hodgson, Tranquilla and Bulmer

A trumpet, trombone and tuba blow "Into the Spotlight" at the Music at Memorial concert series. Aaron Hodgson, Jim Tranquilla and Karen Bulmer prove that, in music from Bach to Sting and Spiderman, a trio of brass instruments can shine in the most surprising places. (Also featuring Bill Brennan and Rob Power)

Heather Tuach and the Duo Concertante

Heather Tuach says that it was 'a funny series of coincidences' that led to her recently becoming the cellist of the renowned Fitzwilliam String Quartet in London England. Heather was featured in this year's alumni recital at Memorial's School of Music and, as you'll hear in this concert with the Duo Concertante, Heather's new appointment has more to do with her beautiful playing, chamber music instincts and personality than it does with serendipity.

Sean Rice and Patrick Cashin (Welcome home Sean!)

Next week St. John's clarinetist Sean Rice comes home to perform with his new band - The National Arts Centre Orchestra. This week on Musicraft, as a welcome home gesture, we'll hear Sean Rice in partnership with pianist Patrick Cashin from their recital called "Songs Without Words." Now in their late twenties, Sean and Patrick have been playing music together since they were 10 and 11 years old respectively. This performance, from Memorial University, reunites them in music that capitalizes on the clarinet's lyrical qualities and includes one of the great staples of the clarinet repertoire - Brahm's Sonata No. 2 in E Flat Major.

Bill Rose and Gordon Quinton at the Ship

Bill Rose and Gordon Quinton pool their guitar picking fingers for a magical night of guitar duos at the regular Wednesday night folk club at the Ship Pub. An appetizing set list of familiar classics that range from "Over the Rainbow" to "Bye Bye Blues" turned out finger-picking good!
