The rock scene in downtown St. John's provided Steve Cowan with his formative musical training ground. But 5 years ago, at age 18, he discovered the classical guitar at Memorial University. Now, with a substantial scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music in his pocket, Steve's pursuing his masters in New York. From the opening concert at last year's Cape St. Mary's Performance Series you'll hear why Steve Cowan's classical guitar playing is turning heads.

Festival 500 - A Personal Diary

As a music producer and host for CBC Radio, this week Francesca Swann's life is dictated by Festival 500. She's recording events, hosting concerts, listening to choirs, meeting musicians and choral music fans from around the world. On Sunday Francesca gives you her inside look at the festival and tells you about some of the people she's met and the stories she's heard. To top it off, we'll hear music by choirs in town to 'share the voices.'

Festival 500 - Welcome the Choirs!

For a week in July the population of St. John's swells as choirs from across Canada and around the world join our local choirs for Festival 500 - Sharing the Voices.  Be prepared for an eruption of song from one end of the city to the other. To establish the choral zone, over the next two Sundays, Musicraft samples some of the ensembles that will be here demonstrating the power of united human voices.
