Marianna Humetska
Toronto pianist Marianna Humetska who is making her CBC Radio and Glenn Gould recital débuts with this concert, first appeared in this series last Fall, together with the Tokai String Quartet.
She began her studies with her mother in Ukraine. While studying at the music school for gifted children, she started playing concerts and participating in international competitions. Top prizes include the Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow and the "Virtuosos of the Year 2000" competition in St. Petersburg. Recently Marianna won a CBC Galaxie Rising Star award, the Concerto Competition at the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto, the Marusia Yaworska Award from the University of Ottawa and played in the semifinals of the Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary.
Marianna moved to Canada in 2001 after graduating from the Moscow Conservatory and obtaining her Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of Music. Recently she performed a recital for the "Début Young Artists Series" at the Chapelle Historique in Montreal. Other concert appearances include recitals and chamber music performances in Canada, USA, Germany, Austria, England, Switzerland, Finland, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. Marianna also performed at Rheinghau Festival in Germany, Kuhmo Festival in Finland and Niagara International Chamber Music Festival in Canada. She has played as a soloist with several orchestras including the London Soloists Orchestra in England, the Russian National Orchestra and the State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Marianna also performed Beethoven's Emperor Concerto with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra in Glenn Gould Studio.
