Benjamin Bowman, violin

Embarking on what is certain to be an impressive and versatile international career, Benjamin Bowman has established himself as one of Canada's finest young violinists. Beginning his studies at age five, he was quickly recognized as a major talent. He made his debut as soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony and, by age 13, had won first prize for three consecutive years at the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition.

Benjamin has had continued success, accumulating many prizes and awards, including the Grand Prize at the Kiwanis National Festival for the Arts, the YTV National Achievement Award and the Young Canadian Musicians' Award.

He has performed as soloist with the Quebec Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Thirteen Strings (Ottawa), Winnipeg Symphony, Oulu Symphony (Finland), Fort Collins Symphony, and Haddonfield Symphony, among others. As a recitalist and chamber musician, he has performed at the Davos International Music Festival, Smithsonian Quartet Academy, Music From Angel Fire, Verbier Festival, Isaac Stern Seminar (NY, Carnegie hall), Banff Festival, with the ARC (Artists of the Royal Conservatory) at Bargemusic (NY), and the IAYA (International Association of Young Artists) on a tour of Europe. He has appeared in concert with many renowned artists, including Peter Oundjian, Bramwell Tovey, Edgar Meyer, Shauna Rolston, Mayumi Seiler, and Peter Wiley.

Benjamin Bowman has led the orchestras of the Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard (prep division) and the Royal Conservatory Orchestra. He has appeared in the Toronto Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and was invited to play as associate concertmaster with the Canadian Opera Company this season. This November, he will tour Europe as the violinist of the contemporary music ensemble, Continuum.

Benjamin earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and now happily resides back in Canada, in Toronto. He enjoys the opportunity to capture a broad scope of the music literature with his flexible career, and improvises in his spare time. He is also an aspiring visual artist.

Vadim Serebryany, piano

Vadim Serebryany was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and immigrated to Canada at a young age. After graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, he went on to complete his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at New York City's Juilliard School. Recently, he completed his doctoral studies with Boris Berman at Yale University.

Since graduating, Vadim has been highly sought after as both a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in Europe and throughout North America, and last summer completed his third consecutive recital tour of Japan. In recent seasons he has embarked on many interesting and challenging projects, including performing the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin, as well as presenting various solo and chamber works of the second Viennese school composers in creative programs. This season finds Vadim on tours of California and Australia, as well as concerts in Toronto and the US. He currently lives and teaches in Toronto, where he is the proud owner of his standard poodle: Lucky.
