Eli Glasner's Top Ten Movies of 2013

Spike Jonze's sci-fi love story about man and his operating system.
I have seen the future and it looks like an apple commercial
Perfect and antiseptic but beneath this sci fi tale is a love story starring Joaquin Phoenix as a man torn apart by the voice of his phone. A killer ap of an idea.

The World's End
A clockwork comedy by director who is equal parts Guilermo Del Toro and Paul Thomas Anderson. In year of a lazy sci-fi spectacle Edgar Wright the brains back in blockbuster.

Doesn't open in Canada until January, but it's Telefilm's pick for the Oscars so that's good enough for me.

An unequivocal cry for independence about a developmentally challenged woman in a film filled with equal parts insight and intimacy.

20 Feet from Stardom
The most moving, artful, musical doc of the year that will send you running to the jukebox.

Spring Breakers
James Franco for Oscar. That's all i'm saying

Fast and Furious 6
In all honesty , the most fun I had in the dark all year. It's ain't complicated but it delivered the goods.

Before Midnight
A marathon chat session, a marriage teetering on the edge, the best battle of the year (take that Thor) and a heart wrenching ending

Upstream Color
Advanced level strangeness by director/writer/composer Shane Carruth. Dangerously Intoxicating.

Frances Ha
The story of a dancer (Greta Gerwig) stumbles through her life lingered long after the black and white images faded.

12 Years a Slave
Chiwetel Ejiofor runs like a river in this potent reminder of the power of cinema.
