CBC News Morning

The Team: Colleen Jones

Colleen Jones handles sports and weather on CBC News: Morning, reporting from beautiful coastal backdrops around Atlantic Canada.

Her broadcasting career began in 1982, at the CHUM radio group where she did morning sports and local sports stories. In 1984, she moved to television for CTV in the Maritimes with Live @ Five. Colleen joined CBC in 1986, first working for the Nova Scotia supper hour show and in 1993 she started with CBC Newsworld Morning. She's been getting up before the sun comes up ever since.

Colleen has covered five Olympic Games for CBC. Her first were the 1988 Seoul Olympics and most recently, the 2004 Athens Olympics. She is now pursuing her dream of competing in the Olympics in the sport of curling. She participates in the Olympic Trials in December to see if she can wear the Maple Leaf at the Turin Olympics in 2006. To date, Colleen has won six Canadian women's curling championships and two world titles and is a member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame.

She is married with two children: Zach, a student at Dalhousie University, and Luke who, at 12 years old, is an up-and-coming tennis player. While Colleen has travelled the world for both CBC and curling, she's always happy to get back to Nova Scotia.
