The Quebec Writers' Federation (QWF) was created
in 1998 to promote and encourage literary arts and to represent
the interests of English language writers living in Quebec. We
organize an annual literary awards ceremony; we communicate with
all levels of government; we increase public awareness of literary
arts and institutions through public activities; and we encourage
dialogue between anglophone and francophone literary communities.
QWF grew out of the strong roots put down by the
Federation of English Writers of Quebec (FEWQ) and the Quebec
Society for the Promotion of English Language Literature (QSPELL).
Most of all, the Quebec Writers' Federation is you.
We're always ready to welcome any new members.
What We Do
In order to promote and encourage English language writing and
writers in Quebec, QWF is involved in a wide range of activities,
publications and programmes. They include:
-
A Mentorship program that pairs emerging writers
with established authors on writing projects
-
Writing workshops to hone skills, such as travel-writing,
marketing for freelancers, novel-writing, poetry, songwriting,
writing for children, etc.
-
Writers in Schools and Writers in CEGEPS programs,
which bring
authors into the education system;
-
Writers Out Loud, a regular book club meeting
that features
conversations with internationally acclaimed fiction, non-fiction
and poetry authors from Quebec;
-
QWrite, a quarterly newsletter with information
on literary events, programs, contests and news from members;
-
Housing a book collection of all former QWF
Award winners, dating to 1988, at the Atwater Library in Montreal;
-
Maintenance of a growing database of all English
language Quebec writers and their books on the web.
-
List of books, stories and articles by Quebec
English-language writers on the topic of Home, in its broadest
sense.
