Montreal Matters Launch at the Biosphere
On October 2nd, Jeanette Kelly went down to Île-Ste-Helene
to re-live some of her youth, as visions of Expo 67 coursed through
her veins. She entered Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome: the former
US pavillion at EXPO. CBC had invited its partners in Montreal Matters
to meet there for the official launch of the month-long special
progamming devoted to the theme of the HOME. Dave Bronstetter, host
of Daybreak, was the MC for the evening.

Montreal Matters 2003: HOME
For a second year, CBC and partners took the entire month of October
to explore a topic of major importance to all Montrealers. For 2003,
the Montreal Matters topic was HOME. CBC Radio looked at HOME and
the things that make it so important to Montrealers; things like
family and community. Through various documentaries and features,
CBC Radio tried to understand why some people "feel at home"
in Montreal, and why some do not, what the current situation was
on housing in this city, and what the house of the future will be
like. People from within the various Montreal communities were invited
to share their own stories about what they call home.
Montreal Matters is more than just the CBC, and in order to reach
out into all areas of the city and bring in many different ideas
about HOME to the discussion, CBC joined forces with 11 partner
organizations.
October 2: Canada
Now's Michelle Guenard took a look at what the public could expect
in October's programming. She spoke to the Regional Director of
CBC Montreal, Patricia Pleszczynska, Dimitri
Katadotis, Editor-in-Chief of Hour Magazine, and Karen
Marginson of the National Film Board.

September 29:
CBC's main partners in Montreal Matters were McGill University,
Concordia University, the Foundation of
Greater Montreal and Hour Magazine. Dave
Bronstetter talked to representants from these organizations:
Anne Lagacé Dowson talked with three of the partner organizations:
Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec;
the Quebec Writer's Federation and Montreal's
Municipal Libraries.
Because telling stories is what CBC Radio does best, Montreal Matters
assembled a team of CBC reporters and freelance journalists who
took the topic of HOME to heart. Over the course of the month, CBC
took the public quite literally into the homes and the lives of
ordinary Montrealers, and through their stories, explored issues
that affect everyone. Dave Bronstetter talked to CBC Radio reporters,
Katherine Canty and Loreen Pindera.
