Quebec Writing Competition Winners

We are pleased to announce the winning entries in the 2011 Quebec Writing Competition. The awards were presented by Jeanette Kelly at the Quebec Writers Federation Gala on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

The judges for the 2011 competition were Drew Nelles, Jaspreet Singh and Johanna Skibsrud

All winners are published in the anthology Minority Reports, published by Véhicule Press.  

The first prize winner's story will also be published in the Winter edition of Maisonneuve magazine, on newsstands December 16th. And the two second prize winner's stories will be published in the magazine's online edition. 

Listen to Cinq à Six for a Quebec Writing Competition special broadcast, featuring interviews with the winners and readings of the winning entries. That show will be broadcast on December 31, 2011. 

Winners to be announced at QWF Gala

The three winners of the 2011 Quebec Writing Competition, as well as the ten honourable mentions, will be announced on Tuesday, November 22 at this year's QWF Literary Awards Gala.

The Gala takes place at 7 p.m. at the Lion d'Or (1676 Ontario E.).

Host of CBC Radio's Cinq à Six, Jeanette Kelly, will announce the winners and honourable mentions at the event. 

This year, an anthology of the winning and honourable mention competition entries for the past three years, Minority Report, published by Véhicule Press, will be unveiled at the Gala. This is the fourth such anthology; together, they represent 12 years of excellence in Quebec English short form literature.

Tickets for the Gala are $15 ($10 for full-time students with ID) and are available at the following bookstores: Argo Books, Babar en ville, Bibliophile, Clio Bookstore, Paragraphe Bookstore, and The Word. Please be sure to check back here this fall to find out who has made the shortlist. Among our finalists, three will be named winners. 

Each winner will receive:

- $1000

- Broadcast of their story on CBC Radio One's Cinq à Six

- Publication in Maisonneuve Magazine and in an anthology by Véhicule Press

The Quebec Writing Competition is the result of a partnership between CBC Radio One, the Quebec Writers' Federation, Maisonneuve Magazine and Véhicule Press.

The 2012 Quebec Writing Competition will open in January 2012.
