Today, families in Newtown, Connecticut are burying the first of the victims of Friday's shootings. In Montreal, a survivor of the Dawson College shooting is speaking out. Meghan Hennegan was shot six years ago at Dawson College. She spoke to Daybreak's Shawn Apel this morning. On the Plateau Mont-Royal, Lucien Lapointe is known as Monsieur Sapin. He's been selling his trees in Carré Saint-Louis for the past 35 years. But he's been evicted from the square because of renovations and the borough says they are concerned he will damage the new grass. Also, Doug Gelevan talks about a NFL record that could soon be broken and Jeanette Kelly explores whether English artists have to be involved in French culture to fully explore their creativity in Montreal.

Restaurant owners are reporting an unusual trend. While shoplifting from supermarkets is nothing new, the owners say people are knocking on the back door of their establishments trying to re-sell food that looks like it came straight from the supermarket. Shawn Apel brings us that story. Cardiologist Guy Turcotte has been granted a conditional release by the commission evaluating his risk to public safety. Turcotte was found to be not criminally responsible for killing his two young children in 2009. Mike speaks to Turcotte's ex-wife, Isabelle Gaston. And, is Quebec the most corrupt province in Canada? Months of revelations at the Charbonneau commission has done little to change that reputation. But reporter Dan Halton has a story about kickbacks and corruption that takes place far outside Quebec's borders.

And we speak to a Montreal man who studied with musician and composer Ravi Shankar for more than a decade. The sitar player is known for having popularized Indian music around the world. He died yesterday in California. And Doug Gelevan tells us about a new computer program that could change how hockey players are trained.

The minority Parti Quebecois' proposed changes to bill 101 still have to pass before the National Assembly. The bill's future is in the hands of the Liberals and the Coalition Avenir Québec. We speak to representatives from both parties. Montreal comedian Sugar Sammy was Daybreak's feature guest this morning. He spoke to host Mike Finnerty about performing in four languages, traditional family values and how long it takes to do his hair. Darwin is the monkey who made international headlines after being found walking around a Toronto IKEA parking lot on the weekend. Darwin is originally from Montreal but he was transferred to a primate sanctuary yesterday. We get an update on his condition.

We also get reaction from small business owners, a CEGEP student and the director of Dawson College. And Montreal constitutional lawyer Julius Grey talks about concerns surrounding the changes to the Quebec charter.

Daybreak was on location at Dawson College today. It's was a special program on how to leave out violence in schools as we approach the deadline for all schools to submit their anti-bullying plans to their boards. We were also raising money for LOVE, the leave out violence in schools program. We meet the founder of the LOVE program, Twinkle Rudberg. The first LOVE workshop took place at Dawson nearly twenty years ago. Shawn Apel also introduces us to a couple of people who went through the program. And Caroline Ouellette joined us. She is a forward with the Montreal stars and a three time Olympic gold medalist. Despite all her success in hockey, Caroline has experienced bullying firsthand. She has some advice for women facing sexist bullying in sports.

She got herself out of major debt and blogs about it. We also hear from a debt councillor. The hurdles facing Iranian skilled workers and professionals who want to immigrate to Québec are getting higher. Canadian consular facilities in Teheran have been shut down and all claims now have to go through the embassy in Ankara, Turkey. We hear from immigration consultant Maria Cottone. Mike also speaks to eighteen year old Wimbledon champion Eugenie Bouchard. She brought home the girls' singles and doubles titles last year and now she's turning pro. Doug Gelevan also talks about the high price of getting a concussion in the NFL.

Quebec's new minister of municipal affairs has been busy recently. Three Quebec mayors have resigned in the past month. Sylvain Gaudreault is also the minister of transport and he spoke to Mike Finnerty this morning. Twenty years ago Neil Papworth sent a text message that read simply "Merry Christmas". It was the first text message ever sent. Neil Papworth is from Reading in England but he lives in Montreal now. And Doug Gelevan talks about David Beckham wrapping up his soccer career on this side of the pond.
