Mundo Montréal
An original series of six world music concerts
presented by CBC Radio 2
Montreal has long been celebrated for its artistic verve and multicultural face. CBC's Mundo Montreal world music concert series was created to showcase the city's incredible musical diversity.
Coming up on Friday, March 19th 2010: Kleztory
with Gadji-Gadjo – A rare world-music mashup!
Two young groups playing exciting Music! You’ve got 2 groups: high-energy Klezmer style or East European music – but both come at it from very different angles. Gadji-gadjo are mostly Francophone Quebecers who spice up the mix with Quebecois trad and Latin styles. Kleztory is a blend of East European nationalities coming together to perform a more classic and virtuosic version of Klezmer. Their backgrounds are intriguing.
Together- though - both groups represent the fascinating blending within Quebec’s musical communities.
Kleztory is not only one of the most exciting and virtuosic Klezmer groups in Canada but they also represent a rich mosaic of nationalities and backgrounds. Members are Russian, French along with both francophone and Anglophone Quebecers. They have settled and integrated very well in Quebec and now are achieving success.
Gadji-Gadjo consists of 5 young musicians from different regions of Quebec plus a lone Vancouverite. They all live in Montreal. They’ve been active for 5 years and have been playing all over Quebec in festivals such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Le Festival Montréal en Lumières, the London Sun Festival, le Festival Mémoire et Racines de Joliette, le Festival du Bout du Monde à Gaspé as well as the Festival Juste Pour Rire. In 2008 the group began to share its music abroad in countries such as USA and France.
This concert will be held at Le
Lion d'or is located at 1676 Ontario East, Montreal,
Quebec.
