Michael is a low level clerk at the National Senior's Council who has battled severe anxiety of one kind or another his entire life. He has been a patient of Dr. Storper's since he was 15, and has made real progress dealing with specific phobias using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques.
Because of his anxieties, he doesn't connect with many people.
He is 30, but his habit of wearing a hoodie and headphones, avoiding eye contact and generally eschewing responsibility makes him seem much younger. His relationship with Dr. Storper is the longest lasting and most important in his life. That is why, when he discovers that David has been writing a book about him for two years, he feels so betrayed.
Matt Watts engaging talents as an actor and writer have contributed to some of the most interesting projects to hit the small screen. For two seasons, he played the long-suffering producer Matt on Ken Finkleman's 2005 International Emmy winning The Newsroom. He also acted as story consultant for the series. Because it's such a good name, he played "Matt" in Don McKellar's Twitch City and was also a story consultant on the inventive and widely-praised series. A member of the Writer's Room on six episodes of the 2003 edition of Slings & Arrows, Matt was part of the team which created the international stage hit The Drowsy Chaperone.
His feature film credits include Scott Pilgrim versus the World starring Michael Cera and Fever Pitch starring Drew Barrymore and Don McKellar's Childstar.
Matt started working in the industry at 17 as a writer and a stand-up comedian. For the past 6 years, Watts has been concentrating of radio drama creating and starring in three series for CBC Radio: Steve, The First (2005), a four-part dark comedy set in a post-apocalyptic future features a slacker who wakes up to find he's slept through the apocalypse, Steve, The Second (2006) details the story of the son of the original Steve; Canadia: 2056 (2007) centres on Max Anderson, the American liaison on board the only Canadian spaceship in an otherwise American space fleet headed toward a galactic war.
