Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience - A Parody by Dan and Jeff
Feb 11 to Mar 25
Panasonic Theatre

Written and performed by Olivier Award-nominated actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, the play takes on the ultimate challenge of condensing, or "potting", all seven Harry Potter books into seventy madcap minutes. The two former Children's BBC hosts are aided by multiple costume changes, brilliant songs, ridiculous props and a generous helping of Hogwarts magic. The show also invites audiences to engage in Dan and Jeff's own special version of a game of Quidditch.

For tickets and other information, check out the Mirvish website.

Tarragon Theatre

Real-life mother and son, Asha and Ravi Jain, share the stage and tell this true (and very Canadian) story of generational and cultural clash. When Ravi takes a trip to India his parents decide it is the perfect time to introduce him to potential brides. Ravi is not sold on the idea of getting married-at least not yet-but Asha fears that time is running out.

Children Story Jam
Feb 11
The Academy of the Impossible

Renowned poet and writer Dennis Lee kicks off "Children's Story Jam", a new workshop series hosted by noted novelist Vikki VanSickle, in which children's authors get feedback on yet-to-be-published work from their most discerning critics: young readers. Each Children's Story Jam session is tailored towards the formal issues that are uppermost on the minds of individual creators. There is also a free jam section, during which young people can bring and share their own writing, or create something on the spot, based on prompts like the theme of the day.

On Wednesday, February 15, Metro Morning will broadcast LIVE from Rexdale.

The program will focus on residents who live in one of the aging concrete towers along the "Kipling strip", north of Finch in Etobicoke. The 23-story highrise is typical of the more than 1,000 towers erected in Toronto's "inner suburbs" in the early 1950s and '60s.

Once seen as decent places, with pools and tennis courts, they are now deteriorating dull buildings, with dark hallways, unreliable elevators, and no place for kids to play. They are also home to tens of thousands of newcomers to Canada who can't afford to live anywhere else.

On Monday, February 13, Matt meets two long-time residents, Faith and Jamal Senior.

On Tuesday, February 14, Mary Wiens brings us the story behind Toronto's Tower Renewal initiative, aimed at eventually restoring all the highrises across the city. We'll also meet Priti Patel, a community activist from India who now calls Kipling Avenue home.

Then on Wednesday, Matt will be on location in the meeting room off the main floor of 2667 Kipling. During the special broadcast, he'll speak with tenants, property managers, architects, planners and community workers about the challenges and triumphs of life in one of Toronto's middle-aged highrises. With residents from diverse countries such as India, Iraq, Haiti and the West Indies - we'll follow their journey to turn an aging tower into a vibrant vertical village.

This building is also the focus of an innovative NFB project, HIGHRISE. This Emmy-winning multi-media documentary experiment explores vertical living in global suburbs. The producers have worked with residents and community agencies in the building since 2009, developing three major documentaries, including The Thousandth Tower, One Millionth Tower, and the Digital Citizenship Project.
