Reporter | CBC's Hockey Night in Canada
Gemini-award-winner Scott Oake continues his role with CBC's Hockey Night in Canada's western games of the traditional Saturday night doubleheader and co-hosting After Hours, the post-game show.
His good natured personality and sense of humour have made him him a popular member of the hockey community. Oake began his career by volunteering at the university radio station during three years of pre-medicine studies at Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland. After two summers working at CBC-St. John's in radio and television, he was hired full-time in 1974.
Oake has since covered the Olympic Winter and Summer Games and the Commonwealth Games - as a commentator for wrestling, hockey, alpine skiing, swimming, rowing, diving, boxing and athletics. Oake also hosted the CFL ON CBC broadcasts for eight years from 1988 to 1996 and in 2004 he hosted the hockey docudrama Making the Cut.
From the NHL's boardrooms to the players' locker room, Oake has interviewed some of the game's brightest and most intriguing stars. In 2003, Oake's interview with Brett Hull won him a Gemini Award for Best Host or Interviewer in a Sports Program or Sportscast.
