Matthew Kruchak is an impassioned multimedia storyteller. He works in a wide array of mediums -- including radio, online, print, television, social media and photography. The versatile journalist has worked as a reporter in newsrooms across Canada, travelled the world as a television documentary interviewer and freelanced internationally. Since graduating from the School of Journalism at the University of Regina in 2007, his work has appeared in The Globe and Mail, the National Post, The Vancouver Sun and broadcast across Canada on CBC Radio.
Kruchak comes to the CBC from the Regina Leader-Post, where he was Coordinator of Interactive News and responsible for overseeing the online editorial operations for leaderpost.com
. Over his three and a half years at the paper, he also held the positions of Interactive Journalist, Night Reporter and Web Editor.
Prior to working at the Leader-Post, Kruchak spent six-months freelancing in Nepal. He wrote newspaper and magazine articles, produce radio stories and shot photo essays for a variety of media organizations, including The Globe and Mail, CBC Radio, and Maisonneuve Magazine.
Kruchak also holds a bachelor's degree in history and film studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, where he played defensive tackle with the Golden Hawks for three seasons. He also played two seasons with the University of Manitoba Bisons, and was named 1997 Canada West Rookie of the Year and nominated for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Rookie of the Year.
