Marilyn Maki brings a wealth of experience both on-air and behind the scenes as host of Radio Noon on CBC Radio One 89.3 FM / 990 AM in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has spent over 28 years as a television journalist including ten years as a weather specialist and 10 years in radio. Marilyn is also the weather specialist on the weekday morning radio show, and occasionally fills in for meteorologist John Sauder on CBC News Winnipeg at 5, 5:30 & 6 pm.
Joining the Radio Noon team in 2002, Marilyn says she loves her job because it allows her to speak with people all over the province about their lives and what's happening in their communities. Happy to call Winnipeg home, it's the longest the veteran host and reporter has lived in one city in her 28 year career.
As host of Radio Noon, Marilyn has won awards for her coverage of agricultural stories, taking home The Canadian Farm Writers Federation's Radio News Reporting The Tom Leach Award in both 2010 and 2011.
Before moving to Winnipeg, Marilyn was at CBC in Regina where she anchored the late night television news and was the weather specialist on the evening news. Marilyn got her start at CBC with Saskatchewan in 1997 as a reporter in news and current affairs.
Marilyn was born in Burk's Falls, Ontario and graduated from CHIT Broadcasting school in Edmonton in 1984. She began her career in journalism at CKYL Radio in Peace River, Alberta. Marilyn also worked for MCTV in North Bay, Ontario from 1988 to 1995.
When not working, Marilyn can be found in her perennial garden or on the golf course. She's a fabulous cook and loves to travel. Marilyn married to her wonderful husband Philip in 1985. She loves cats and has always had one in her life. Currently it's a tabby with attitude, called Marigold.
