Analyst, Figure Skating | Road To The Olympic Games
A figure skating icon, Kurt Browning has electrified fans around the globe for years and now joins CBC as an analyst for figure skating coverage on Road To The Olympic Games
Browning is also a Guinness World Record holder as the first person to successfully land a quadruple jump in international competition, a feat he accomplished at the World Championships in 1988. He is a four-time Canadian Figure Skating Champion and four-time World Figure Skating Champion. As a professional, Kurt won consecutive World Professional and Canadian Professional Championships in 1995, 1996 and 1997.
In 1990, Kurt was the recipient of the Lou Marsh Trophy for Top Canadian Athlete. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and Canada's Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2001, he was honoured with a star on Canada's Walk of Fame and in 2006 was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. Kurt also a distinguished member of the Order of Canada.
Kurt Browning is a two-time recipient of the Lionel Conacher Award, given to Canada's male athlete of the year. Also adorning his trophy case is the Gustav Lussi Award from the Professional Skaters' Association, and the American Skating World's Skater of the Year Award.
Kurt has competed on televised ice competitions including Skating with Celebrities and Ice Wars and has been a frequent commentator for CBC coverage of major skating events such as the World Championships, and the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
