News Anchor | CBC Radio One Toronto
Kimberly Gale is the news anchor on CBC Radio One 99.1 FM on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. She has been reporting and anchoring for CBC Toronto radio and television since 2009 and has filed for The National, World Report and Dispatches.
Kimberly has travelled extensively and worked on three continents. In November 2013, she was selected by CBC for an assignment with Journalists for Human Rights and travelled to Sierra Leone to train reporters covering the country's presidential election.
Prior to joining CBC, she spent more than a year as a reporter and news reader at a national radio station in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, investing her spare time as a teaching assistant at a women-only university there. Kimberly has also taught English in Fukushima, Japan -- a place she returned to in 2012 to report for CBC on the first anniversary of the triple disaster.
Kimberly got her start in journalism at the Toronto radio station Newstalk 1010. She has also worked as a writer for Global News Toronto and as a media training aid with the Canadian Armed Forces. She has a bachelor of journalism in broadcasting from Ryerson University and a bachelor of arts in anthropology from the University of Toronto, where she conducted a year-long independent study on punk rock culture.
In her spare time, Kimberly volunteers at a drop-in centre for street-involved women. She co-chaired the Exposure Project
-- an initiative that teaches these women photography skills. Their photos help educate the public on the realities of life on Toronto's streets, as well as raise money for the drop-in centre they access.
