CBC THUNDER BAY CELEBRATES 40 YEARS WITH AN OPEN HOUSE SEPTEMBER 27, 2013
Sep 24, 2013
In 1973, a dedicated group lobbied for a wholly owned CBC station in the region. 40 years later, CBC Thunder Bay will celebrate four decades on the airwaves and in the community, with a full day open house on Friday, September 27th.
Join us bright and early for a live broadcast of Superior Morning with Lisa Laco (6:00am - 8:30am), featuring Crosstown Blues, the house band for the show, which includes popular Outdoor columnist Gord Ellis.
At noon, get your piece of birthday cake, and later that afternoon, Voyage North with Cathy Alex (4:00pm - 6:00pm), goes to air with live music throughout the show. There will also be studio tours and opportunities to meet the staff all day long.
"This is a terrific opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at CBC Thunder Bay", says Program Manager Susan Rogers. "We're looking forward to celebrating with the community that is responsible for the CBC locating in Thunder Bay. Bring the kids and the grandparents, as well as friends and neighbours who might not know about their local CBC station."
Visitors to the station can also participate in draws for 40th anniversary t-shirts and coffee mugs, with balloons-- and face-painting for CBC's youngest fans in exchange for donations to the Regional Food Distribution Association of NorthWestern Ontario.
CBC Thunder Bay will be open from 6:00am to 7:00pm; so come before work, at your lunch break, after work or anytime in between and see how the CBQ of yesteryear has evolved into the modern public broadcaster of today.
