Two-time Gemini Award nominee Brenda Irving joined CBC's broadcast team for the XX Commonwealth Games as an in-studio host. She has been a member of the CBC Sports team since 1995 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as she provides news and insight to the broadcasts.
Irving is known for her work as host on CBC's Sports Weekend where she covers the world of amateur sport. Irving has also covered eight Olympic Games for CBC, including her role as a member of the figure skating broadcast team during the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Over the course of her career with CBC, Irving has covered a wide variety of sports and sporting events including tennis, Nordic Combined, snowboarding, skiing, judo, Grey Cup championships and Stanley Cup Finals. Most recently, Irving travelled to Brazil as an on-site reporter for CBC's coverage of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
Before joining the CBC Sports team, Irving worked for both CBC and CTV in their news departments with postings across Canada including stations in Montreal, Ottawa and Kitchener, ON.
Born in Cambridge, ON, Irving is a graduate of Conestoga College's radio and television broadcasting program.
