Steve Armitage

Legendary sports broadcaster Steve Armitage reprises his familiar role as the voice of long track speed skating for CBC/Radio-Canada’s coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. He has been a member of the CBC family for more than 50 years and for much of that time has been the iconic voice of championship sport on the network across a wide variety of disciplines. PyeongChang 2018 will be his sixteenth Olympic Games as a broadcaster.

In addition to his work on Olympic Games coverage, Armitage was a member of CBC’S Hockey Night in Canada broadcast team for nearly 30 seasons. He also covered numerous Commonwealth Games and Canada Games as well as CFL football, international swimming competitions, Canadian Open golf and the FIFA World Cup, among other events.

For his exceptional work as a CBC broadcaster, Armitage has been honoured with three Gemini Awards, the Foster Hewitt Award and was inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame. Most recently, he was recognized with the Sports Media Canada award for Career Achievement in fall 2017.
