Alexandre Despatie

Two-time Olympic silver medallist and three-time World Champion Alexandre Despatie joins the CBC/Radio-Canada broadcast team for coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 as co-host of Olympic Games Morning alongside fellow co-host Andi Petrillo. PyeongChang 2018 will be Despatie’s third as a broadcaster and his second consecutive Olympic Games as a member of the CBC/Radio-Canada team, having hosted the network’s French-language morning coverage during Rio 2016. Despatie brings a wealth of first-hand knowledge and experience as an Olympian to his role with Olympic Games Morning, having represented Canada for times during his diving career.  Since ending his competitive career Despatie has become a familiar face in the Canadian broadcast community including his work with Radio-Canada during Rio 2016, a role as host of a Montreal-based morning show and having been part of French-language coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

One of Canada’s most decorated athletes of all time, Despatie won two Olympic silver medals, eight World Championship medals including gold medals in the 10m, 3m and 1m events making him the first diver ever to be the World Champion in three different events. He won 11 Commonwealth Games medals including nine gold medals – the first of which came in 1998 at just 13 years of age – and won seven Pan Am Games medals including four gold. In addition to all of his international accomplishments, Despatie is a 37-time Canadian senior diving champion and a nine-time Canadian junior champion.
