Health Warning
Don't
use certain Salus-haus liquid vitamin products
in glass bottles
April 24, 2006
Health Canada is advising
consumers not
to use 10 different types of liquid vitamin
products manufactured by Salus-Haus of Germany
because of concerns about unsafe glass packaging
that could shatter if not refrigerated after
opening.
To address the safety concerns, Salus-Haus
last year implemented a new cap system on
all their product bottles. The new cap provides
an effective pressure release and reduces
the risk of shattering. The new metal caps
are a bright golden colour, with two lines
of teeth-like indentations around the top
and bottom of the cap.
The potential risk is that some of the
products with older caps may still be on
the market since they have not reached their
expiry date. The old metal caps are a dull
brass-gold colour, with one line of ridges
around the top of the cap.
Health Canada
was recently advised of two incidents reported
in Canada where the bottles burst and shattered
after being opened and stored unrefrigerated.
The incidents did not result in any injuries.
The distributor is recalling the following
products with the old version of the cap.

Salus-Haus products are distributed by
Flora Manufacturing and Distributing Ltd.
and are available in most health food stores
and some pharmacies across Canada. The packaging
is a brown glass bottle.
Health Canada is advising
consumers to return any unopened product
with the old version of the cap to the point
of purchase. Consumers should not discard
any opened product, but rather keep it refrigerated
until they have received guidance from their
Municipal Government regarding the safe disposal
of these products. Empty bottles should be
disposed of with the cap removed. |
