Product Recall
Air compressors recalled due to fire and electrocution hazards
April 11, 2006

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Tap Enterprises Inc. and dba Cummins Industrial Tools, have announced the recall of about 11,300 "Mini 2-Gallon Pancake Air Compressors." Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

An undersized power cord can overheat and pose a fire hazard. In addition, improper assembly of the power cord strain relief component and improper routing of internal conductors can cause a shock hazard to consumers.

The firm has received 40 reports of compressors failing to work, including two incidents of smoke and fire. One incident resulted in $30,000 worth of property damage to a stand-alone garage. No injuries have been reported.

Manufactured in China, the mini-pancake air compressors were sold with yellow, blue, grey or silver-painted tanks. Item #2112 and “CUMMINS INDUSTRIAL TOOLS, AIR COMPRESSOR (OILESS), 110V.60Hz, 2 Gallon, Made in China” can be found on the motor housing.

The affected products were available to Canadian consumers via websites from June 2004 through March 2006.

Consumers should stop using the compressors immediately and contact Cummins for a refund of the purchase price including shipping.
