Allergy Alert
Undeclared egg and milk in Worthington Vegetable Skallops
April 7, 2006

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to egg and milk proteins not to consume certain Worthington Vegetable Skallops. The affected product contains egg and milk proteins, which are not declared on the label.

The affected product, Worthington Vegetable Skallops, is packaged in a 1 LB. 4 oz can with a green label and a UPC 28989 23303. Only cans with a manufacturing code beginning with 10055CS SK stamped on the bottom of the cans are included in this alert.

This product is known to have been sold in Oshawa and Toronto, Ontario, and may have also been sold in other provinces.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg or milk proteins.

This CFIA alert is initiated in response to a recall by Worthington Foods, Battle Creek, MI, USA. According to Worthington Foods, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the label for Worthington Skallops, which does not declare egg or milk, was mistakenly applied to a limited number of cans containing veggie hot dog type product containing egg and milk.

For more information, consumers and industry can call the CFIA at 1 800 442-2342 / TTY 1 800 465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday).
