Airlines to post safety records
March 24, 2006
Worth repeating from CBC
News Online:
Air travellers worried about flying will soon be able to look up
airline safety records online.

Under a new arrangement announced in Montreal on Wednesday, the
safety information will be posted on the website of the International
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a Montreal-based United Nations
organization which regulates international air travel.
Passengers will also be able to find airport safety
records, a list of airport accidents and measures that were taken
to prevent them from happening again.
About 70 countries that belong to ICAO have
already agreed to post the safety information,
while 119 other member countries are expected
to file their information by March 2008.
The safety agreement was hammered out during
ICAO's three-day meeting in Montreal that
concluded Wednesday.
Much of the debate at
the conference focused on aviation safety. "Accidents most often
happen when standards and regulations are
not applied on a consistent basis," said
conference chairman Assad Kotaite.
ICAO also plans to post data on aviation
legislation, operating rules and licensing.
